Diablo Is Getting a New Board Game Adaptation You Can Play Solo or With Friends

Announced today, Glass Cannon Unplugged, the same studio behind tabletop adaptations of Don’t Starve, Dying Light, and Apex Legends among others, are getting ready to take on the demons of Sanctuary with Diablo: Unbound. Launching a campaign over on Gamefound, Diablo: Unbound is a cooperative dungeon battler for between 1-4 players and features iconic locations and beasts as you level up, and gear out a champion from familiar classes like the Rogue and Barbarian in a quest to take down the dungeon boss.

Details are still fairly scarce but already just in the trailer we get some exciting looks at the game from some awesome looking miniatures, various player boards, and even an idea of what the character systems might be. Judging by the map, Unbound looks to have you and your allies facing off against hordes of monsters on a hex grid.

As a big fan of deck builders, seeing that your special abilities and actions are tied to a deck of sorts, has me intrigued. The trailer also showcases a glimpse at the player boards with spots allocated for various armor pieces (with spots open even for gems) including chest, a left and right weapon slot, helm, ring, and necklace. Skills also appear to be taking a page out of the Slay the Spire board game rulebook with skill cards being double-sided with a base side and upgraded side so prepare for sleeving cards, folks.

At a quick glance, fans of boss battlers and dungeon crawling board games, Diablo: Unbound should take notice as this is already teasing some neat systems. For those attending the massive board game convention in Germany, Spiel Essen, this week, you can try out an early build of the game at the Glass Cannon Unplugged booth in Hall I with the campaign planned to launch in Q1 of 2027.
